How many homes qualify for a rehab program per year?
Currently the PHA budgeted for 10 rehabs per year
What is the amount I am eligible for if I am approved for rehab?
Currently the amount is $25,000. Depending on the type of rehab that is needed, not all may be used.
What type or rehab services are allowed?
Rehabilitation is limited to the structure only of the home. The PHA does not do new construction. The only exception to this is tornado shelters.
What is the service area?
Our service area is a 75 mile radius of the PHA.
How long is the waiting list one application is successfully completed and submitted?
Waiting time varies and is dependent on different criteria such as tribal affiliation, housing conditions etc.
Is there a tribal preference?
Yes, preference is given to Peoria and Ottawa tribal members.
Can only families apply?
No, individuals may apply for rehabilitation also.
Can I apply for more than one at a time?
Yes, only under certain circumstances that is determined detrimental to health or safety. This will be determined by a committee.
Can I apply if I am a convicted felon?
Yes, the Executive Director has the authority to approve the application of a convicted felon. Several factors such as severity of the felony, the time lapse of the felony, and if the individual has stayed out of trouble since the felony will affect his or her decision.
Down Payment Assistance
How do I get qualified for a down payment assistance grant through the PHA?
Submit a complete application, meet income guidelines and live within the PHA service area.
Do I have to be a first time homeowner?
No, but you cannot have been a previous recipient of the grant.
What expense does the down payment assistance grant cover?
Earnest money, appraisal fee, home inspection fee or any other monies needed for closing.
What is the maximum amount I can receive?
The maximum amount an applicant can receive is 20% of the purchase price up to $18,000. Non low income assistance is available at a lower assistance amount, however; it is limited to one per year.

Do I have to repay the down payment & closing cost grant that I receive from the PHA?
Not if you remain in accordance with the terms of the Useful Life Agreement. Call for more information

Where are the low rent units located?
Low Rent units are located in Miami, Wyandotte, Quapaw, and Fairland.
Does the Peoria housing authority have emergency housing?
No, but if situations arise, we will work with the family or individual to assist them as our policies permit.

Is there income guidelines for this program?
No, unlike our grant funded programs, these units aren’t regulated by HUD.

Who are some of the partners the program is currently working with?
The Peoria Housing Authority: which includes activities supporting drug education and cultural awareness for our youth. Inter-Tribal Council, Inc: which includes Food Distribution Program; the Women, Infant, & Child Supplemental Food Program (WIC); substance abuse counseling and testing, and employment assistance including education, on-the-job training, work experience, and job placement assistance. Northeastern Tribal Health System: which includes Diabetes Educators, Registered Dietitians, and a Certified Personal Trainer that is available to provide assistance to PHA tenants. Boys & Girls Club of Ottawa County: who provide after school and summer programs. Tulsa Teacher’s Credit Union (TTCU) and Oklahoma Native Assets Coalition (ONAC):who provide financial education.
Drug Elimination Program
Who is eligible for the DEP program?
The PHA community youth are eligible for this program.
What type of activities does this program fund?
The PHA has several activities that the children of our communities can participate in. We take various field trips throughout the year, we have different activities at our main office in Miami such as spring fling and our annual Halloween spook house. We also have our New Year’s Eve stomp dance that everybody is invited to and it provides cultural learning and safe fun for all ages.
Is there a fee to participate?
No, the PHA wants these activities to be a positive experience for all of our youth.
